Penny auctions are fast paced and exciting, oh and you can save a ton of cash
Remember the days when eBay first began and you would bid on other people's unwanted items? It was the greatest invention since sliced bread, everyone was all the rage over it. As the site got older eBay started to offer new unused items for sale or to bid on and evolved into what can be likened to an internet pawn shop today. Now there is the invention of the penny auctions, a new driving force in the retail industry, offering shoppers a way to impulse buy without breading the bank. Online penny auctions, like regular auctions, allows bidders a specific time period to try to "win" items, but unlike regular auctions, new time is added after each bid in a penny auction. These auctions can get pretty intense. Since the bids only increase the cost of items by cents you can benefit from remarkable savings, if you know what you are doing.
Online auctions can be very expensive, it is a business designed to make a profit, and with that in mind you will need to find ways to increase you savings. With penny auctions you must purchase bids. The cost is usually around $.60 to $.80 each and are normally sold in pack of 100 to 1000. The more you buy obviously the cheaper they are. The cost can get pretty extensive if you are placing hundreds of bids on an item, not only that if you fail to win the item, bids are lost as well. It's kinda like a double whammy, but don't let that discourage you it is still possible to gain the things that you want without breaking the bank.
Penny Auction Strategies
Most penny auction sites offer beginner auctions. If you are new to penny auctions this is where you should begin. It is where you can learn all the in and outs of bidding on items, the best items to bid on and ways to win auctions. It also gives you the opportunity to win additional bids, one of the biggest keys to success in saving at auctions. Winning free bids is like putting money in the bank. For example if you win a bidding war that has taken up to 300 bids at $.80 and the cost of the winning bid is say $32.40 the total cost to you would be $272.40. Pretty high and not much savings depending on what the item is. However if you are using bids that you won, "free bids", you now have reduced the cost of that item down to only the $32.40 that the winning bid costs. While there is much more to it than that, you will be off to a good start if you accumulate a ton of bids that don't cost you much.
Other keys to success
Before you begin bidding in auctions I suggest take a look at the live auctions and find items that you would like to bid on. Then look at the recently won items for the items those same items for information about how many bids it took to win the item and what the final cost of the item was. You will see that they vary and it will give you an idea of how many bids you can expect to use and what the final cost will be. You can immediately decide if it is worth it to you to "spend" that much on the items you are interested in. Knowing this information ahead of time is important if you expect to win bidding wars, running out of bids in the middle of a war will mean that you will have to either abandon you position in the auction or purchase more bids, and dropping $75-$80 bucks in the middle of a war it not fun. So like they say know before you go.
Although online penny auctions require some research work, the rewards can far outweigh the risk if you use a good strategy. Every item is different though so a strategy may work on one item but not another. For example you may get into bidding wars on items like flat screen HDTV's but something like a deep fryer you could win with 10 bids and it's a bonus if the fryer comes with an additional 100 bids. Don't want a deep fryer, sell it on eBay you will be sure to get your money back you just got 100 bids for $8 or something like that.
